5 gifts to get an artist for the Holidays

The Holidays are upon us, with Thanksgiving coming up and then Christmas, Hanukkah and so on. The season means lower prices, and gifts for all our friends and families. But what could you get for an artist, someone who likes to create content? Here are 5 gift ideas of things you may want to get for a creative person.

Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet

A pen tablet is one of the most important tools for any digital artist, especially if they spend a lot of time in Photoshop or some other painting program. There's no question that using a digital pen is much preferred by most content creators rather than using a mouse, and if you know someone who is just starting out and doesn't own one yet, you can get a good quality Wacom tablet for around $80. The Bamboo models are some of the most popular and well respected out there, and always make a great gift for someone who doesn't have a pen tablet yet, or who may have an older model.

Adobe Creative Cloud subscription

Adobe, like many other large computer software makers, is starting to transition from selling applications to providing subscription services. The company calls it Adobe Creative Cloud and for a monthly fee, you can download any of the CS6 applications, and gain access to any new update and release. For $49 a month, this may prove to be a cheaper option than going out and buying all of the apps, and could be a great gift for the Holidays.

iPad Mini

Tablets aren't new, but it has taken some time for graphics apps to appear on them. Now, the iPad provides several well known professional apps for painting, drawing, and even modeling in 3D. But perhaps you used to think of the iPad as an expensive device. Now, the iPad mini is both smaller, which means it's more portable, and it's also cheaper starting at around $325. There's also Android options, some of them being cheaper even, but you should check out what art apps are available.

CGTextures membership

After buying the applications, the one thing many artists end up needing is textures, and often a lot of them. One of the most popular textures site is CGTextures, with over 80,000 items and growing. They offer medium resolution textures for all, but provide high res versions as well to members. Membership starts at around $75 per year, and allows you to download a larger quantity of images which can be used in creating all sorts of art, from photo-manipulations to 3D renders.

DeviantART membership

Many artists like to display their works online, and DeviantART is one of the most popular art community. This site allows you to upload images for free, but with a membership, starting at $30 per year, you gain access to additional features, and can forgo ads. This is a great gift idea for an aspiring artist who wants to get known.
