Hurricane Sandy leaves Greenpoint Studios wrecked

In the aftermaths of Hurricane Sandy, it seems like some artists returned to Brooklyn and found their studio building devastated. Greenpoint Studios is on Commercial Street and suffered some of the worse flooding in New York, leaving years of work destroyed and very little salvageable.

Artinfo visited the studios and took pictures of the flood damage on the scene. Simply watching these images it's hard to imagine much will be salvageable, and the work on reconstructing the studio may take a while. A lot of the works included traditional paintings, including a gallery and show room, which have been wiped out.

There's no report yet of other studios suffering a similar fate, but this one establishment has served artists in New York for decades, and will be a big blow to the city.
