Design of free-to-play games

Gamasutra has an interesting series on the design of free-to-play games. It covers things like how to design for a market that expects virtual goods for free, ways designers can provide immediate satisfaction, and designing the game for new audiences. Free-to-play games also have other key concepts like being easier to use and have a longer duration. Finally, metrics also need to be closely looked at in order to make such a game profitable.
