IAB, Adobe implement new web ads guidelines

The Interactive Advertising Bureau, an organization made up of over 500 graphics firms and media companies, has updated its rich media advertising guidelines. These are the standard resolutions, file sizes and media specs that all its advertising members are encouraged to use. With those, it hopes to reduce the wide number of different ad sizes and types around the web, some of which are quite CPU intensive.



Meanwhile, Adobe announced Project Adthenticate, a standardized CPU check tool that ad creators can use for their Flash based ads to make sure they comply with the guidelines, and graphics designers can use to optimize them. For users, this may mean a reduction in annoyance at various web banners as they start complying with the new rules.
