Disney and YouTube to partner

This morning the New York Times reported
on an upcoming investment of $10 million to $15 million by Disney and YouTube, in order to create family friendly animation shorts that will be hosted on both Disney.com and YouTube. The new channel will feature brand new programming created especially for the web. While rather small, this project may be a landmark deal as such a large production firm partners directly with Google for its web media strategy. So far, Disney has been losing money in the space, and people have already shown that YouTube is a destination they want to go to, so it makes sense for publishers to go where the viewers are. If this works for Disney, many more large production companies may follow suit.
