The Foundry releases Katana

The Foundry announced Katana, a look development and lighting tool. Katana is a program that allows for an asset based workflow, replacing traditional pipelines of 3D artists, created by Sony Imageworks and used in several movies since 2004.

Some of the features include:

- Updating of assets once shots are already in progress.
- Share lighting set-ups, such as edits and overrides, between shots and sequences.
- Use of multiple renderers and specifying dependencies between render passes.
- Shot specific modification of assets to become part of the lighting 'recipe' for shots to avoid having to deal with large numbers of shot specific asset variants.

Studios and 3D professionals can buy the new product which is now at version 1.
