Toshiba announces highest resolution tablet display
Back to index
In the race for tablet and smartphone displays, Toshiba Mobile Display Ltd may have just taken the lead. The company announced
this week a new 6.1'' LCD providing a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, giving it a 498 pixels-per-inch (PPI).
These images show how much crisper text can be based on the resolution used:
In comparison, the iPhone 4S retina
display is 960 x 640, giving it 329 PPI. Typically, this high resolution is only seen in computer monitors, but now Toshiba may have brought up the bar as to what's possible in small screens. There's no hint yet as to when we'll see this technology inside an actual tablet, but the new display will be shown off this week at an exhibition in Pacifico Yokohama.
